Star City looking to fill upcoming vacancy on town council

STAR CITY — Longtime Star City Town Council member Todd Gregg has informed the town that despite being reelected to council in last month’s municipal election, he will not serve the upcoming term.

Star City Mayor Sharon Doyle said any resident of the town interested in filling the vacancy needs to submit their name, address and phone number to [email protected] or in person at 370 Broadway Avenue, by the close of business on June 17.

Town council will conduct its final meeting of the current term the following evening.

“We’ll take the names we receive, and we’ll have that on our June 18 agenda, to select the new council person. Then we can all be sworn in together in the first meeting in July,” Doyle said.

All five incumbent members of council were unopposed in the May 15 primary.

In addition to Gregg, Andy Laskody, Lyn DeChristopher, James Morris and Gregory Epps were returned for another two-year term.

Doyle and Recorder Steve Blinco were also unopposed and reelected.

Gregg has served multiple stints on council, dating back to the early 1990s.

According to Doyle, he’s stepping away for personal reasons.

“Todd has served on town council for multiple terms over the years. He was born and raised in Star City. He’s always been proud of his hometown and being able to serve the citizens and do what’s right, not necessarily what’s always easy,” she said. “Sometimes you just need to step back and allow some time for yourself.”

Applicants for the open council seat must be registered voters living in Star City.
