Monongalia Dems’ chair resigns

On Monday, Mindy Salango, chair of the Monongalia County Democratic Executive Committee, resigned her role as chair.

The committee announced the resignation Friday and said it will elect several new leaders at the Nov. 13 meeting.

Salango’s resignation came as a surprise to the committee, who praised her stalwart leadership through a momentous period of leadership change and Delegate Hamilton’s nomination for House of Delegates.

Salango agreed to remain on until a replacement is voted in by the committee, and will retain her seat as District 9 representative.

As a result of the resignation, the committee postponed the vice chair election and will vote for several offices at the Nov. 13 meetingset for at 7 p.m. at the Plumbers and Pipefitter’s Local 152 building. It is open to the public.

“It’s been an honor to serve this committee, and I’m grateful for the trust you gave me these past several months. We’ve made a lot of progress,” Salango said in a press release. “The committee is full of dedicated Democrats focused on electing more Democrats in 2024 who will build a brighter future for West Virginians. While I’m stepping back to devote more time to my family’s needs, the party’s new leadership will have my unwavering support.”

At the Nov. 13 meeting, the committee will vote for new chair, vice chair, second vice chair, Rules and Bylaws Committee membership, and any remaining seats for district representatives. A full list of open positions may be found at moncountydems.org.
