Joseph Beatty

Joseph Beatty, 88 of Morgantown, passed away peacefully Friday, March 22, 2024, at his home with his loving family at his side.
Born Aug. 24, 1935, on Mabel Hill, in Dilliner (Greene County) Pa., he was a son of the late Charles Edward and Mary Ellen (Smitley) Beatty.

Joe attended Mapletown High School, and then worked for 11 years with Chevrolet Assembly in Brook Park, Ohio. Upon returning to the Morgantown area with his young family, he worked at Andy Brothers Tire Shop in Morgantown, before going into the coal mines, where he worked for Consol for 29 years. He was a member of the UMWA, Local 1058.

Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Margery Lee (Beach) Beatty, who he married on Jan 6, 1961. Also surviving are his three children and their spouses, Julie and Greg Commodore of Morgantown, Joseph and Trudy Beatty of Smithfield, Pa., and Scott and Kelly Beatty of Morgantown; six grandchildren, Jason Beatty and wife Laine, Patrick, Kate, Joseph, Connor and Tessa Beatty; and a number of loving nieces and nephews and their families.

Joe was the last of his immediate family, having been predeceased by sisters, Kate Brown, Dorothy Byrne, Valetta Brown and Leona David, and brothers, James, Robert and Gene Beatty, and Charles in infancy.

Friends will be received in the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m., and Wednesday from 10 until 11a.m., the hour of service. Interment follows in Wolf’s Cemetery, Dilliner.
