32nd Annual Day of Caring brings volunteers together for special projects

The area’s largest single-day volunteer project is back on May 8.

Each year, the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties partners with local nonprofit organizations to coordinate volunteer projects that will be completed on one special Day of Caring, which aims to bring people together to create positive change in the community.

This year, which marks the 32nd anniversary of this event, is once again sponsored by Summit Community Bank and will feature many community volunteers working to tackle a variety of projects throughout Monongalia and Preston counties.

These volunteers include individual residents, families, organizations and corporations. Volunteers use a website, VolunteerMPC.org, to sign up for the project of their choice, allowing them to decide what aligns with their interests and abilities. Likewise, they can use the website to create a team and sign-up with friends, groups, family members and co-workers. The projects help the nonprofit organizations involved and include everything from painting, to gardening, to cleaning up trails and more.

From 8:30-9:30 a.m. May 8, there will be a kickoff event at Summit Community Bank, 176 Courtyard St., Morgantown, where volunteers can receive breakfast, free items, enter raffles and take a giant group photo before heading out to the service projects. Most service projects will take place between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

This event is designed to foster service and volunteerism, and to introduce area residents to local nonprofit organizations that work each day to build a better community for all. It also allows volunteers to learn and recognize the impact the United Way has on meeting the human service needs of the community.
